It blends out easily onto the cheeks, so it doesn't look like you're wearing concealer goggles. The peachy tone gives it a color-correcting effect against the purple of dark circles. This stick concealer is great for afternoon re-applications. It's very creamy when it swipes on, but it has a powdery finish. That means you don't have to add any setting powder before you head to happy hour.

Finding a good drugstore concealer is tough. Yet this one can stand up to some of my prestige favorites. The cushion-y applicator helps blend the color out so there are no stark lines where the concealer ends which is especially important if you're skipping the foundation step. A lot of full-coverage concealers in the dark range have an orange tint that hides the circles but leaves my face looking, well, orange.

So, it feels like I need to put foundation on top. I love this Clinique option because the undertones are spot on. This concealer is pretty powerful if you have dark circles and puffy eyes to cover up.
It comes in 19 shades and three color-correcting options. It's got a very thin texture, which makes it a perfect pick if heavy makeup isn't really your thing. You can also build up more layers if you want more coverage. This stick is very versatile. I like to use it as concealer because it is so lightweight and light coverage. Plus, this stick is easy to carry around in your bag for midday touchups.
Bobbi Brown is a go-to brand for everyday makeup. This concealer doesn't have the fullest coverage, but it does the job for low-level under-eye darkness and discolored lids.

This formula isn't very thick, so it slides on without settling. Deciding on a foundation formula is one thing—just pick from sheer, medium, or full coverage—but shade selection is a whole other process. What looks like a good match in the bottle often shows up completely different on your skin, and after a few disappointments, it seems easier to skip it entirely. But since foundation is one of the best makeup inventions of all time, I decided it was finally time to seek expert help.
My mission: My starting point: Me, without foundation on. I'm doing this all for you guys. You should test several shades, ideally on the lower part of your cheek. And it's always best to test them in natural light. Everywhere I went, I was asked for my preferred foundation formula. Hearing that I'm a tinted moisturizer fiend who applies her makeup while walking from room to room helped the experts hone in on formulas with light-to-medium coverage.
And that's when the consultation really began. After assessing my makeup-free skin, each expert swiped three shade options from that type of formula onto my lower cheek toward my jawline. Interestingly, everyone had a slightly different way of determining my shade.
At MAC, for instance, my artist referred to the crook of my neck, while everywhere else, they took my entire face into consideration. Once we identified my "overtone," or the intensity of my pigment, we moved onto my "undertone," or the shade that was peeking through. At that point, we studied the options in a handheld mirror and decided which seemed the most natural on me. If we couldn't agree, we'd walk to the window—or in the case of the Make Up for Ever studio, to a light source that mimicked daylight—for a second check. I usually tested two out of the three options on my full face.
The differences were subtle, but it was clear which ones actually melted into my skin when compared. It's shockingly easy to misidentify your real skin tone. It turns out that my skin—universally deemed a "medium tone with golden undertones"—is much lighter than I thought it was. As such, whenever the light, medium, and dark options were striped along my jawline, I immediately wanted to try the darkest option.
Can't it just be blended on my skin, I'd ask? The super polite artists explained that foundation should disappear into your skin. Here's a look at the five different foundations they matched me with, from left to right shot on my hand so it's easier to see the difference: Foundation doesn't need to be applied all over your face.
For years, I've been okay with wearing foundation only in the middle of my face.
